Platelet-Rich Plasma

A quick, in-office procedure that uses your body’s own regeneration mechanism – a natural “super-booster” for many treatments.

Platelet-Rich Plasma

What is Platelet-Rich Plasma?

PRP is a high concentration of platelets surrounded in its own plasma. A small amount of blood is drawn and the red cells are isolated from the platelet-rich plasma by a centrifuge. Since the autologous Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) is processed from the patient’s own blood, there is virtually no risk of an allergic reaction or rejection.

What does it treat?

PRP is effective for male or female pattern hair loss (aka androgenetic alopecia).  It is also an efficacious anti-aging treatment for the skin.

How does it work?

Your platelets release growth factors and cytokines that tell your stem cells to proliferate.  This can allow for an increase in tissue repair and decrease in inflammation in the scalp as well as increased collagen production in the skin.

What is the treatment regimen?

For hair loss, we recommend 3 or 4 treatments at monthly intervals, followed by maintenance treatments every 6 months (quarterly for more advanced cases). Most patients see an increase in thickness (existing hair) by 60-90%. Studies show regrowth up to 30% (dormant hair). Patients will notice better retention first, then start to see changes in photos in 3-6 months. Patients may also see some color improvements. There is very little risk of any reactions or side effects.

For anti-aging treatment of facial skin, we combine our microneedling procedure with PRP for enhanced results.
