V-Beam

We offer V-beam pulsed dye laser treatments to patients wishing to dramatically reduce or remove common skin ailments such as brown pigmentation, rosacea, wrinkles and similar problems. Using this technology as well as continuing their research of many laser technologies helps us ensure an ideal treatment for your specific needs.

What Is the V-beam Laser?

The V-beam laser is a pulsed dye laser that delivers a concentrated burst of light to the area of your skin being treated. The pigmented areas of your skin or blood vessels treated in the dermis of your skin absorb the light, which works to lighten the darkened skin tones.

To protect the epidermis of your skin during treatment, a cooling mist is applied to your skin, which also helps promote patient comfort. Most patients report no pain during treatment, but rather a warm or tingling sensation.

Who Can Benefit?

A variety of patients can benefit from V-beam laser treatments to treat common superficial skin issues. This type of laser has been used since the 1980s to treat port wine stains on children and infants. In addition to removing birthmarks, the V-beam laser is also shown to treat:

  • Brown pigmentation
  • Rosacea
  • Fine wrinkles
  • Angiomas
  • Mottled pigmentation of the neck

V-beam Laser Aftercare

After your treatment is complete, you should avoid sun exposure and wear sun block. You will likely feel a tightening of the skin in the treated area and may see the initial benefits immediately.

As a side effect, you may experience some swelling or redness of the treated area, but this will dissipate in a few hours. In rare cases, a laser bruise may occur, but this will fade in a few days.

    The V-beam Laser Procedure

Before you undergo a V-beam laser treatment, you should avoid prolonged sun exposure and also wear a sun block. This will aid in the effectiveness of your upcoming treatment.

When your treatment begins, you will be lying down and both you and your plastic surgeon will wear protective eyewear. After the laser has been calibrated for your skin and the issue to be treated, the laser will be applied with intermittent cooling, for your comfort.

While the sensations felt by most patients are mild, if you are exceedingly sensitive, your surgeon may give you a topical anesthetic for your treatment, though it is rarely necessary.
